Fastener project










Fastener Project







Summery

The point of this lab was to explore creative and innovative ways to use different types of fasteners to build unique structures. For this project our goal was to great a standing project using 3 to 7 pieces of wood then cutting the wood to specific sizes then fastening them with each teams specific fastener.




Results

I feel we were close to achieving our design goal, but our design seemed to get less towards our goal near the end of the designing phase. When we were designing we wanted to make a step based statue that had rhythm, but it had trouble standing. Then we settled with a statue that had the step pattern we began with but it joined together at the top. We had some of the rhythm from our last design but it wasn't like it.






Analysis

  The most successful groups were the groups that used dowels and magnets. These groups were successful because the statues showed balance and rhythm. The one that used the dowels had rhythm through repetition of shapes. While the team that had magnets had great creativity by making a man since we can connect with it.

Compound Machine

Summary
 

 
What we did in this project is we combined our simple machines to create a complex machine. my group combined our lever, wheel and axle, and our pully to create a super machine. The reason we did this project was so we can achieve the highest IMA possible. We were alowed to use any way to increase the IMA.
 
 
 
Results
 
 
Our machine was successful in testing, we managed to achieve an IMA of 92. Then we changed how on our wheel and axle the string wrapped the dowl rod. we moved some parts and let the string rad around a larger area of the rod so that it was getting the right thickness of the rod. After we did this change we tested it again and it changed the IMA to 130. Compared to the other groups, our group did average to the others.
 
 
Analysis
 
 
What I learned from this project was the aspects of the machines that affect this IMA the most. Some diffcutlt concepts to grasp were the placements of some of the machines. Nothng during this project really suprised me. I could apply this to a future project by using some of the tricks we used in this project in a future one.
